Summer Carnival

 Come with me to a place where the colors are vibrant...

Where the light is perfect...

Where the kids are happy...

Where the music is loud and people dance with spirit...

and where tattooed muffin tops undulate like fun slides...

YES! The Summer Carnival is in town! We had a great time taking in all the sights, smells, sounds, and feeling nostalgic about corn dogs and cotton candy (for about 2.5 seconds and then we came to our senses)
It's nice to know you live in a place where these festivals happen.

 Where giant elephant dogs roam and make us feel macho...
 the calliope plays...
and there's a winner every time.

This was weird/cool

First off, if I was designing my own life exhibit, you can bet I wouldn't be mixing fonts with reckless abandon.

And second, as ad promo for some intel product --I guess I'm left feeling a little jaded.  It's all just a basic template that grabs your information and posts it to the program...

Still, kinda freaky to think about your online presence.

In which Kaje proves she's learned her lesson...

 Guh--normally I HATE pictures of myself. I much prefer being on the other side of the lens. But every so often there's the "Oh, okay, fine group photo...yeahhhh...let's do it."

And then the classic "hold your arm out and take a picture with your phone pose"...

But you see what I did there? Eh? NO SQUINTY EYES FOR ME! The 'shutter' clicked my face didn't contort into some strange shocked-scared-fishoutofwater visage. I WIN! I WIN This is a bitter sweet moment though, because while I look cute, (I mean, check it, no double chin! No ugly smile. No bad side arm lines) poor Ivan got slammed by the sun.

I may have crazy-windy-ms.frizzle-hair--and a blanket wrapped around me (because it was frrrrreeezzzing in the park. Don't let that bright sunlight fool you. AND Hey!? What did I ever do to you June? Why do you hate me? 59 degrees...)

but I don't have squinty eyes---because I've learned the secret. Have a sun scapegoat, and hide behind the person next to you!

 Which means I owe you a cute picture of Ivan...

 There...all better! :)

Spring City Adventures

It was Heritage Days in Spring City...

{ Uh, Americana much? Also, the ranunculus was blooming. I was in heaven.}

So I took this boy with me...
{ Why is it that the people who protest the most to getting their pictures taken are the ones that the light loves the most?}

 And we looked at old cars...
 {There's something so nostalgic to that old leather and oil smell.}

 {Ohhhhh beautiful Bennion Bowls!}

And marveled at this old church...
 {Beautiful old LDS church from 1904. Could have driven your tin lizzy to hear the preacher. They don't make 'em like that anymore. }

  Enjoyed looking at all the old houses...

 {The one on the left is a B&B.}

{I love odd front door wreathes, don't you?}

 and chose our favorite-favorite.

 {Pioneer meets Provence?}

{All it needs is some chickens in the yard. Please tell the owners I'll be moving in next week. m'kay? thanks.}
Good light, good food, great company. It was a grand day out.

Look who came to visit!

{How do I have the prettiest friends?}

My former college roommate, and sweet friend, Lauren came to visit, and brought her sweet kiddo, Brooke! This lady, besides being model beautiful, is a phenomenal chef. You can check out her food blog here at Lauren's Latest

No really. You should stop by, and give my "Lolo" some blogging love. Especially if you like the sound of "Blue Cheese filled Bacon Wrapped Mushrooms"...or "Lemon Cheesecakes with Blueberry Compote"

{ The last time I saw this munchkin, she was four months old...which adds up to...me being a horrible friend! HA!}

 { Peony trees were in blossom }

 { Aww! How sweet is this? }

So, even though my schedule was crazy, with Nanny duties and running around like a psycho person, it was good to briefly catch up. Basically, it taught me that I'm just going to have to make a trip to Oregon--quick before the Food Network steals her away. Hey, DREAMS COME TRUE!

May flora/fauna

 {One of the best feelings in the world is being able to go grab fresh herbs from your own garden}

{ This is called happiness

{ Kale colors are so cool! Hopefully I can keep it alive long enough to enjoy it's alien-like pigments}

{No sissy violets for me please. THIS is my favorite flower OF. ALL. TIME.  Zinnias are huge, vibrant, happy, and can take a chomp from a grasshopper, or a mean frost. Life goal: be more like a Zinnia.}

 {That's for you, Mandy Jigs.}

If you haven't heard of Karine Polwart, please, PLEASE allow me to introduce you. She's got the voice of a Scottish angel, and is the authoress of the above lyrics.

So, daisy, daisy, sweet and crazy? How do your gardens grow?

Because they make me happy, on rainy days.

Grandpa's back garden is a magical place

{It's true! I've spotted many an imp at the base of the old apple tree.}

{The lovely scent of lilacs is second only to new baby smell...}

 {This tree makes the best apple cider known to man.}

 {That bank of Lilies of the Valley will be up in no time!}

 {Some of us can't wait that long. The garden is a perfect place for an afternoon nap.}

{ It's May! It's May! It's MAY!}
